Ionex SG Ltd is Severn Glocon Group's environmental engineering business.

Launched in April 2011, it is dedicated to the development and provision of high technology water treatment systems.

As part of the Severn Glocon Group family, Ionex SG is developing products that incorporate innovative electrochemical and catalytic technologies.

Ionex SG is currently commercializing a process for reducing nitrates in aqueous solution to harmless nitrogen gas. This technology promises to greatly expand the use of ion exchange for decontaminating ground water that has an unhealthily high level of nitrate. A conventional ion exchange (IX) process used to remove nitrate from groundwater produces a considerable brine waste stream (perhaps 0.5% of the volume of the water processed) in which the removed nitrate is concentrated. This waste brine must be disposed of permanently by ocean disposal, through evaporation ponds and ultimate land burial, or other  methods that may be expensive or potentially leave the community with future environmental problems.

The Ionex SG process reduces the amount of brine consumption and waste to around one-hundredth of conventional IX, making IX treatment of ground water for denitriification much more economical and friendly for the environment and the local community.

Headquartered in Nailsworth, the business is aligned with Severn Glocon Group to give an international reach. We work on a global basis with major operators in the water equipment industry.
