Quantapoint Europe Formed to Capitalise on Growth in Digital Facilities Created Using 3D Laser Scanning 4th August 2010
Severn Glocon Group PLC and Quantapoint are pleased to announce the formation of Quantapoint Europe, a formal joint venture that replaces the Severn-Quantapoint initiative. Quantapoint Europe provides Digital Facilities™ created using 3D laser scanning that improve safety and decision-making for building, managing and upgrading facility assets. The joint venture has been created due to rapid growth in the Refining, Power and Oil & Gas markets of Europe and the increasing importance of the Quantapoint brand in the market.
Based in the UK, Quantapoint Europe also plans to open a series of dedicated project and sales offices in key industrial hubs throughout the Continent within the next 12 months. “Quantapoint has performed many projects based in Europe, and it is an important market for future growth,” explained Quantapoint’s President and CEO, John Wilson. “Our earlier initiative with Severn Glocon has already proven that we can reach those markets and this is part of Quantapoint’s strategic initiative to build global market presence and continue development of next-generation technology and services.”
The capabilities offered by Quantapoint Europe are radically different from typical laser scanning ‘point clouds’. Their Digital Facility combines photo-realistic Laser Images™ and high-definition Laser Models™ that can be accessed directly, or within various CAD packages. The Digital Facility is ‘engineering ready’ due to its small, immediately usable file sizes (typically one-tenth of the size of a ‘point cloud’) that can be viewed and manipulated on the desktop straight away, without the need for remodelling.
Facility operators can also integrate their asset, operations and maintenance information with the Digital Facility. This provides faster access to critical information through an intuitive interface that looks like the facility. It can then be supplied to contractors for new projects and the results owned by the operator.
Quantapoint Europe also provides analysis, quality control, documentation and decision support services to eliminate the most common sources of preventable project defects from across the project lifecycle. The benefits apply equally for the modification of existing assets, extending facilities, or building new plant. Costs are greatly reduced through spending less time on-site, improved accuracy and the elimination of errors so that projects are delivered with Zero-Defects.
Colin Findlay, Executive Director of Severn Unival within the Severn Glocon Group and Director of Quantapoint Europe added, “Quantapoint Europe will bring the latest Digital Facility and laser scanning technology to Europe to deliver more complete and precise information to facility owner-operators and project design engineers. The results impact on increased efficiency, safety and project performance.”
